Heir Apparent went through several personnel changes following their 1986 European Tour:
Mike Jackson added full-time keyboards to the band in October of 1986;
Derek Peace had left the band in August 1986 and was replaced by bassist Duane Bakke,
and subsequently replaced by Randy Nelson prior to Derek's return in May, 1987;
The band recorded two new demos before Paul Davidson was replaced by Steve Benito in June of1987.
By mid-1987, with the "One Small Voice" line-up established,
work continued with writing material and securing a new record deal.
In the summer of '88, Heir Apparent opened for David Lee Roth in the Seattle Center Coliseum,
just prior to signing with Metal Blade/Capitol Records.
"One Small Voice" was recorded at Triad Studios in the fall of 1988,
once again with Tom Hall and Larz Nefzger at the controls.
This album marked a totally different dimension in the music of the band,
but trends were moving in the opposite direction.
By the time the music written in 1987-88 was released in June of 1989,
technical progressive metal had started giving way to the raw and simplified rebellion of "grunge".
With the disintegration of Heir Apparent in March of '89,
and without Major Label incentive required to promote the material,
"One Small Voice" became a victim of the changing tide.
Now, over a decade later, an appreciation for Progressive Metal is staging a comeback.
"One Small Voice" has undergone a complete re-mix/re-mastering by guitarist Terry Gorle.
The new "One Small Voice" contains 2 previously unreleased tracks, and sounds better than ever.
